House Caucus Learns Composites Advance Military and Aerospace Missions

Members of the U.S. House of Representative’s Congressional Composites Caucus were informed about the many important uses of composites in military aircraft, missiles and unmanned vehicles, spacecraft and commercial aircraft by experts on high performance composites at a July 25 briefing.

Some applications for composites such as aircraft demand an even higher level of performance than that provided by the highly capable fiberglass reinforced thermoset polyester composites, which are used in thousands of applications because of their light weight and resistance to aggressive environments. These “advanced composites” are made with super-strength reinforcement and resins, typically carbon fiber and epoxy.
