Exploring TFP Technology: Watch the Demo from CAMX 2024
~ August 5, 2025
As we gear up for CAMX 2025, Composites One is revisiting an innovative demo from last year’s Demo Zone. Presented live on the show floor, our Technical Team demonstrated Lightweight Innovation – Net-Shaped Reusable Vacuum Bag Infusion using Tailored Fiber Placement (TFP) Preforms, showcasing how new technologies are reshaping composites manufacturing through greater efficiency and precision.
Tailored Fiber Placement is an innovative process developed by PRC Composites, a leading composites manufacturer based in Southern California. “We’re trying to reduce labor, we’re trying to reduce waste, and we’re trying to have consistent quality,” said Matthew Parmental, now Executive Vice President at PRC Composites, who served as Director of New Technologies Development when this demo was filmed.
In this demonstration, our Technical Team utilized TFP preforms to create a net-shaped layup around the full perimeter of a complex flange. The result was a high-quality part that required little to no cutting, trimming, or sanding. By eliminating these post-processing steps, manufacturers can significantly reduce production time, lower labor costs, and maintain a cleaner working environment. The process also offers a high level of flexibility. Fiber and backing combinations can be tailored to meet specific performance or design needs, making it a versatile solution for many advanced composite applications.
