Next Generation Novolac Epoxy Vinyl Ester Resins for Heat Resistant Composites
Modified novolac epoxy vinyl ester resins are presented for composite applications demanding high heat resistance.
These resins are liquid at room temperature, shelf-stable yet fast-curing, and compatible with a wide range of fabrication methods. Glass reinforced and carbon fiber reinforced composites derived from these high performance resins are constructed and tested for mechanical and thermal properties. The property retention at elevated temperatures of strength and modulus at elevated temperatures in these next-generation resins exceeds today’s commercially available highest performance vinyl ester resins.
